FEEL THE BEAT

Synopsis
April left her hometown in Wisconsin to be a Broadway dancer in New York City. Driven by her ambition, she is hardworking and committed. She is ready to do whatever it takes to make her mark, even if that means stealing a cab from an old lady on a rainy day, and that’s exactly what she does on the day of the biggest audition of her life. She reaches the studio on time and gives a brilliant performance. She is almost chosen for the part, but then the old lady comes back in the picture and it turns out that she is Ruth Zimmer, one of the biggest names in Broadway.

April tries to make her understand just how important the job is for her, but this only makes matters worse when she accidentally pushes Ruth off the stage. It officially marks the end of her career, but on top of that, the whole thing is recorded by someone and it starts trending on social media. The only escape for her now is her hometown, where her failure is still a secret. Her fate takes a turn for the better when she is offered to train a group of amateur dancers to win a competition.

Review
This movie is a bit predictable, but that doesn’t ruin the story that it tells. The story talks about love, redemption and hope. Although, the storyline of this movie isn’t something new, there are a couple of things that I love about this movie. I love the fact that April(Sofia Carson) who happen to be a feisty lady didn’t get away with her attitude. She paid for it and had to redeem herself through hard work, a change of attitude, and commitment.

I also love that the movie didn’t shift its gaze from the main characters which are the kids and April. Although, during the course of exploring the story, we met more characters like Nick(April’s high school sweetheart) April’s Father, Mrs. Barb( April’s dance teacher when she was a little girl) the kid’s parents and many more characters. I mean, we met diverse characters but this film was still able to maintain the fact that this story is about April and the kids.
Another intriguing aspect of this film is that the writer didn’t allow April and Nick’s history to affect the story. The writer didn’t make it about their love life. Fine, their love life came up at some point but this didn’t determine the endpoint of the film.

Talking about the dance routine in this movie, it was believable, not perfect, but still enjoyable. I’m saying this because when the kids were introduced, the viewers were made to understand that they didn’t have the best dance teacher to coach them until April came around. So when April started taking these kids, magic didn’t just happen, the kids didn’t suddenly have the best dance moves or instant learning ability. The process was believable, it was realistic and it was worth it.
This movie also showcased the bond and happiness that comes with kids genuinely spending time with a teacher that gets them
Let me not forget to mention how this movie brilliantly showcases the beauty of a small town coming together to work towards a certain goal. The songs in this movie were brilliantly selected, the cinematography, the lighting, the costumes were tremendous.
Allow me to talk about how effortlessly gorgeous Sofia Carson was looking😍 in this movie, I was like

If you aren’t careful, her skin, her hair, her style, her beauty would distract you.
