Synopsis
Drawing Strength is a movie about a born again Christian enterprising architect, Lami Washik, whose career is being celebrated by the society, gracing magazine covers and getting high profile architectural designs. But while she’s busy hugging the limelight and basking in the accolades of a successful career, the real hand behind her designs is a crackhead called Rufus who use to be her school mate.
Review
The storyline of this film brought up so many discussions like was Lami wrong? Receiving accolades for what a job that she didn’t do. Here is my own opinion.
Yes we can say Lami was wrong, taking the glory for another person’s drawing, having the spotlight all to herself while someone else is doing the job. What she did was cheating, she lied to the world. Yes. Fine. But let’s look at this from another angle.

Rufus is a drug addict and he is in no way stable to close a deal with any responsible client, I mean this guy made it clear that he doesn’t want the fame, all he wants is the money to satisfy his addictions but Lami, on the other hand, is a businesswoman who is smart, has the money, networking skills and time to go about sourcing for deals and closing them. And it is not like she enjoys Rufus doing the drawing because there was a scene where she tried doing the design on her own but couldn’t get a hang of it

I love the fact that the writer of this film was able to give us a background story to how lami and Rufus met and how the whole deal thing started. Lami supported him with cash while they were in school and even helped arrange IT and because he was good, Lami connected them with good jobs, he did the drawing and they share the cash. She took her own part of the money and was smart with it but Rufus spent his on drugs. Lami even went further to pay for Rufus’s rehabs and treatment, rent and more .so what are we saying???
Also what was with Lami fraternizing with Ajuma who betrayed her?

Ajuma just made me realize that no matter how small your circle of friends is, you would still find that judas amongst them. Ajuma is a traitor and nooooo I won’t agree with the resolution in this film. Ajuma who is meant to be like a sister to Lami goes to the media to share a very big secret that can ruin Lami and the career she has built simply because Lami stopped giving her money and wants her to start taking obligations for herself. she even went further to call Lami a fake Christian saying she is living a fake life and even stole from Lami. After everything Ajuma did, Lami went ahead to hug her, acting like nothing happened. Really??

Ajuma was a jealous and bitter person with no job and no intention of getting a job or picking up any bills. She just wanted to mooch off of Lami and have Lami thank her for her friendship. Ajuma is not a friend. I don’t care if she has repented, she can’t be trusted so why keep her close??
Verdict
I would rate this film 4/5 because of good storyline, good music, good sound and picture quality and of course good set deign. The set designer did a great job with Lami’s office and home. Even the make up artist did a good job. Yes, yes Sophia Alakija(Lami) is no doubt a beautiful woman, it is natural for her but there was this bossy Lami looks that the make up artist gave her which was really great for the movie.
Do you think lami’s actions are justifiable or you think she was totally wrong?
What do you think about Lami keeping Ajuma close as a friend?
